Friedrich Merz, chairman of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) party that won the election, may become Chancellor of Germany for a very short time, as German voters will not forgive him for deception and fraud. This was announced on March 13 by Bernd Baumann, secretary of the Alternatives for Germany (AfD) faction.

"Fraud and deception — any measures are good for you. And the voters will punish you for that. Your chancellorship, if it exists at all, will not last long," Baumann said during a debate in the Bundestag.

He also said that the CDU/CSU and the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) want to change the constitution three times, using the old composition of the Bundestag, which voters no longer need. Baumann noted that for the CDU/CSU, only public positions are important, and not the peace of citizens and prosperity of Germany.

Earlier, on March 11, RTL TV channel, citing a survey by the forsa Institute for Market Research and Public Opinion, reported that the majority of Germans are not sure that Merz will cope with the duties of chancellor. According to the survey results, 52% of respondents believe that Merz will make many mistakes and will not be able to become an effective head of government.

Early elections to the Bundestag were held on February 23. They were won by the CDU/CSU bloc, which received 28.6% of the vote. The Social Democratic Party (SPD), led by Chancellor Olaf Scholz, showed the worst result in its history, gaining 16.4%. The second place was taken by the "Alternative for Germany" (20.8%), and the fourth place was taken by the "Greens" (11.6%). The Left bloc became the fifth in terms of the number of votes with 8.8%.
