US President Donald Trump has said that if the European Union (EU) does not lift duties on whiskey, the US will impose 200% tariffs on alcoholic beverages coming from France and other EU countries. This was announced on March 13 by the American leader on the Truth Social network.

"The European Union can be called one of the most abusive tax and duty authorities in the world. It was created for the sole purpose of taking advantage of the United States. The EU has just imposed a disgusting 50% duty on whiskey," Trump stressed.

In his opinion, these measures will have a positive impact on the US business. Trump also called the EU's approach to imposing duties one of the most hostile and unscrupulous in the world.

Earlier, on March 11, Trump ordered to increase import duties on Canadian steel and aluminum to 50%. He proposed to do this in response to a 25% increase in electricity prices, which was introduced by the province of Ontario for three US states.
