The rating of healthy foods, according to the Russians surveyed, is headed by whole-grain bread, milk, fresh juices and cereals, follows from the results of a study by the federal network of fitness clubs DDX Fitness, which was reviewed by Izvestia on March 14. However, DDX Fitness trainer and nutritionist Artem Opalnitsky noted that in some cases these products can be harmful.

"Whole—grain bread is often not as healthy: modern wheat, genetically modified to increase yields, is less nutritious and can cause various inflammations, increase cholesterol levels and is not suitable for people with gluten intolerance," he explained.

In addition, according to him, freshly squeezed juices are not the best choice, because when they are made, useful dietary fibers are destroyed, and only sugar remains from the fruits themselves. Fruit juice contains the same amount of sugar as a sugar-sweetened drink.

"Milk can also be harmful due to the lactose content, which is poorly absorbed by many people, and the presence of hormones added during production," the expert added.

According to the results of the study, every third inhabitant of Russia focuses on naturalness (44.8%) and vitamin value (38.4%) when choosing products. At the same time, the majority consider mayonnaise to be one of the harmful products (83%). The list of unhealthy foods also includes fast food (89%), pork (27%), butter (21%), popcorn (57%) and potatoes (11%).

"Potatoes are actually not harmful, but even useful if consumed in moderation. It perfectly saturates and provides the body with energy due to its high carbohydrate content (20-25% in one potato). In addition, potatoes are rich in potassium (500 mg per 100 g), which supports the work of the heart and muscles, and also contains vitamin C, magnesium and phosphorus," Opalnitsky drew attention.

In addition, he clarified that although pork is considered a high-calorie product, it is rich in protein, B vitamins (especially B1, B6, B12), zinc and iron. These substances support the nervous system, immunity and energy metabolism. The nutritionist advised to choose less fatty pieces and cook them without excess oil (bake, stew).

"Mayonnaise is really high in calories, but modern versions with a fat content of 30% or homemade mayonnaise (made from eggs, olive oil and lemon juice) can be healthier. They contain vitamins A, D, E, K and healthy fats, so it can be consumed, but in moderation," the expert noted.

At the same time, he said that butter, especially butter, is a source of vitamins D, E and antioxidants. It supports the immune system and slows down aging. In small amounts, it even increases the level of "good" cholesterol.

"Popcorn is a great snack if it's free of chemical additives. Natural popcorn contains fiber, B vitamins and antioxidants, which are beneficial for the heart and digestion. Cook it at home without excess oil and salt to preserve the benefits," Opalnitsky emphasized.

If you consume these foods in reasonable quantities, they can be beneficial. The main thing is to keep an eye on the balance in the diet and choose high—quality ingredients.

The study also notes that people's food preferences may vary in different regions of the country. This is due to cultural traditions, the availability of products, as well as climatic conditions that directly affect the choice of diet and eating habits. Experts believe that in order to maintain health, people should give preference to foods that are traditionally grown or produced on their territory. Such products best match the climatic and geographical conditions of the region, as well as the needs of the body.

Earlier, on January 29, Natia Chekhoeva, a gastroenterologist and endoscopist at the Gastro Clinic, told Izvestia that the systematic consumption of excessive calories inevitably overloads the body. This not only increases body weight, but also puts a strain on internal organs, including the heart, liver, and pancreas.
