The likely purpose of the visit of US President Donald Trump's special envoy for the Middle East, Steven Witkoff, to Russia may be to continue discussing the topics of the meeting in Riyadh, as well as negotiations on the terms of a cease-fire in the Ukrainian conflict zone. This assumption was made by State Duma deputy Alexei Chepa on Thursday, March 13.

"First of all, we know that preparations are underway for a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Trump. The negotiations that took place in Riyadh are also continuing, as well as the resolution of the issues outlined in Istanbul. All this may be the reason for Witkoff's visit," the politician said in a conversation with Lenta.Ru .

The parliamentarian called another possible goal the story of the special envoy of the American leader about the negotiations with the Ukrainian delegation and the discussion of their results.

"Perhaps they will discuss the possibilities and conditions of a ceasefire. Probably, this issue will be one of the main ones. But in any case, there will be many more such meetings. The most difficult issues remain ahead — the issues of the peace agreement," concluded Chepa.

Earlier that day, Witkoff's plane arrived in Moscow, RT reports. The aircraft landed at Vnukovo Airport. The motorcade, in which Witkoff is allegedly located, was spotted in the capital on March 13.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that American negotiators were flying to Russia, and contacts with the United States were planned. According to him, Michael Waltz, adviser to the American president on national security, and Yuri Ushakov, assistant to the Russian leader, had a telephone conversation the day before.

White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt announced on March 12 that Waltz had held talks with the Russian side on the conflict in Ukraine. At the same time, she clarified that the United States administration continues to maintain contacts with the Russian Federation.
