The political scientist called Crimea the basis of Russia's geopolitical strength

Crimea is the basis of Russia's geopolitical strength and a symbol of its military history. On March 13, Vladimir Shapovalov, a political scientist, a member of the Board of the Russian Association of Political Science, head of EISI projects, told about this at the Izvestia News Center as part of a round table of the Expert Institute for Social Research (EISI) on the topic: "Reunification of Crimea and Russia: 11 years of a new life."
From the 10th to the 16th century, the Black Sea was called "Russian," he recalled. After the annexation of Crimea to the Russian Empire in 1783, the country was able to expand its geopolitical interests, the political scientist believes.
He also stressed that in 2014, the Russian Federation began the period of collecting its own historical lands.
