Composer Sofia Gubaidulina died at the age of 94.

Honored Artist of the RSFSR, honorary citizen of Kazan and composer Sofia Gubaidulina died at the age of 94. This was announced on March 13 by the Kazan City Hall on its official website.

"Sofia Gubaidulina was a man of the epoch, an outstanding composer of our time and a man of outstanding personal qualities," the message says.

Representatives of the Mayor's Office expressed gratitude that, despite her busy schedule, she found time to visit the city of her youth and professional development. During her visits, the composer always paid attention to aspiring musicians.

Her mark will forever remain in the Center of Contemporary Music, which bears her name, the message added.

Sofia Gubaidulina is the author of more than 100 symphonic works, works for soloists, choir and orchestra, instrumental ensembles, music for theater, cinema and cartoons. She has written music for 25 films, including "Vertical", "Mowgli", "Man and his Bird", "Scarecrow". It has also been a member of the USSR Union of Composers since 1936.
