Ex-head of the transport police in the Volga region arrested for fraud


Alexander Berezhny, the former head of the transport department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Volga Federal District, was arrested in a case of abuse of authority and fraud. This was reported to Izvestia on March 13 in the press service of the courts of the Nizhny Novgorod region.
"The accused was given a preventive measure in the form of detention until May 9, 2025 inclusive," the ministry said.
A case was opened against the ex-boss under Part 1 of Article 286 and Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Abuse of authority and fraud on an especially large scale").
According to the investigation, Berezhnoy allegedly gave instructions on the acceptance of work on the repair of the police building, which in fact were not completed.
He is also charged with illegally registering the Neptun 550 service boat, which he used for personal purposes, the department added.
Earlier, on March 12, a criminal case was opened in Dagestan against the director of the municipal autonomous institution Gorservice on suspicion of abuse of office. According to the investigation, from February 2021 to May 2023, the suspect, in prior agreement with employees of the Derbent administration, carried out illegal transportation of municipal solid waste (MSW) that had formed on the territory of the city to an unauthorized landfill.
