The court recognized the crimes of the Nazis on the territory of North Ossetia during the Great Patriotic War (WWII) as genocide. This was announced on March 13 by the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation.
"In support of the stated demands, the court has been provided with a significant amount of materials — evidence of crimes committed against the civilian population of the North Ossetian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic during the Nazi occupation," the agency's website says.
During the Second World War, residents of the region were bullied and tortured for almost two months, the elderly and children were mercilessly killed. The total number of victims reached over 2.3 thousand people. More than 1.6 thousand residents were forcibly taken to Germany. Settlements in the region were bombed and shelled.
Earlier, on February 18, the Prosecutor's office of North Ossetia sent a statement to the court establishing the fact of genocide of the peoples of the Soviet Union. As noted in the article, German troops occupied North Ossetia in October 1942, the occupation lasted until December of the same year. The damage from the occupation amounted to 2 billion rubles.
