The first half of March pleased Muscovites with warmth and sunshine, but in the middle of the month the weather will change. Already on Friday, March 14, a strong storm will arrive in the capital, preceded by the longest downpour of this spring. The air temperature will remain unusually warm. However, after the storm passes, a cold snap will set in. Read more about what awaits Muscovites on Friday and how to protect yourself and your car in the Izvestia article.

A nine-point storm in Moscow on March 14th: what is known

Until Wednesday, March 12, it was warm in April in Moscow, and the air temperature has managed to break a number of climate records since the beginning of the year. However, on Wednesday evening, the weather began to change and it began to rain, the amount of precipitation was about 20% of the monthly norm. It was the heaviest rain since the beginning of spring. No precipitation is expected on Thursday, March 13, and the air temperature may break the record of 23 years ago, when the capital warmed up to +11.5 degrees in the afternoon.

However, on Friday, March 14, a strong storm will arrive in Moscow, which on the Beaufort scale will correspond to a nine-point one. Evgeny Tishkovets, a leading specialist at the Phobos weather center, wrote about this in his Telegram channel.

According to the expert, wind gusts in the middle of the day will reach 18-23 m/ s, the peak of the storm will be from 15:00 to 18:00. During the night hours of March 14, the thermometer will show around +7 and +10 degrees, in the afternoon the air may warm up to +14 degrees and break the temperature record again. By the weekend, the wind will subside, but with it will come a sharp cooling to 2-6 degrees above zero during the daytime.

As the forecaster noted, not only Muscovites will be affected by the storm: "The storm wind zone will spread across the entire Central Russia — from the Upper Volga region to the Chernozem region."

The storm on March 14 in Moscow: What to expect

According to Evgeny Tishkovets' forecast, wind gusts in Moscow on March 14 will reach 23 m/s, which corresponds to a nine-point storm on the Beaufort scale.

This scale is a table for estimating and recording wind strength in points. There are 12 options in total, the strongest of which is a hurricane. According to the table, the wind in a nine-point storm can bring down structures, knock down trees and demolish the roof.

Evgeny Tishkovets also noted that the air flow during a storm presses with a force of about 30-35 kg per square meter.

Note that the storm warning of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, as a rule, announces a forecast of wind speeds over 15 m / s.

How to behave during a storm

Strong winds often cause damage and can be dangerous if you do not follow the recommendations of rescuers. In order to protect yourself and your cars in the city, you need to remember a number of rules:

— while in the building, tightly close and strengthen the doors and windows;

— remove all items from the balcony that may be blown away;

— if possible, do not go outside and do not approach the windows, so as not to get hurt by possible fragments;

— those who find themselves outside during strong winds should stay away from poles, trees, advertising banners, wires and other structures that may be knocked down or damaged in a storm;

— do not leave cars near trees. Branches can break off and severely damage the car.;

— if possible, it is better to avoid traveling around the city by public transport. If this is unavoidable, it is important to comply with traffic regulations, do not exceed the speed limit and avoid sudden maneuvers.;

— find shelter. The subway is best suited for this, and if the rain is heavy, it is recommended to wait out the bad weather in a building on a hill.

A tree fell on a car: what to do, will there be compensation

Damage to a car caused by a falling tree can only be insured under a hard hat (the insurance contract must include risks such as a dangerous natural phenomenon or natural disaster, including falling trees). CTP does not cover this risk.

For payment, it is necessary to photograph the damage, get a certificate from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as well as the Hydrometeorological Center, which will say that a natural disaster has actually occurred.

Those who do not have a hard hat can try to get payments through the court. In this case, it will be necessary to prove, for example, the guilt of public utilities that did not notice in time that the fallen tree was rotten. However, it is important to remember that if the car was parked in the wrong place, you will not be able to win the case.
