Providing your accounts for fraudsters to use makes a person an accomplice to crimes. This was announced on March 13 by the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Irina Volk.

"The Russian Interior Ministry warns young citizens: do not make fatal mistakes, do not accept questionable offers from strangers on the Internet. Accounts sold or leased can be used not only for fraud, but also for organizing other serious and especially serious crimes such as terrorism, extremism, extortion, and others," Volk said.

In addition, the official representative added that at the moment, foreign scammers have increasingly begun to contact Russians with requests to buy or rent social media accounts. According to her, such appeals often come to underage children through chat rooms in online games.

She noted that due to such accounts, fraudsters can get various information about other messenger users. They have the opportunity to steal data about the date of birth, the country of residence and the number of account registration.

Volk cited as an example the story of a teenager from the Kostroma region who leased his account to a foreign call center for 1.5 thousand rubles. The attackers assured the victim that the deal was safe, but in the end, the student became an accomplice.

The representative also called on parents to monitor their children and prevent their mistakes in the information space. She added that the financial affairs of minors should also be supervised.

The day before, it was reported that in 2024, Russians most often encountered fraudulent calls allegedly on behalf of bank security services. Andrey Dugin, head of the cybersecurity Services Center at RED Security, noted that despite the active work of the state and law enforcement agencies to protect Russians from digital fraud, the number of people falling for the scam remains high.
