U.S. representatives are already on their way to Russia to negotiate a cease-fire in Ukraine. This was announced on March 12 by US President Donald Trump during a meeting with Irish Prime Minister Michael Martin in the Oval Office of the White House.

"[Washington's] people are heading to Russia right now as we speak. We hope that we can achieve a truce," he said at the event, which was broadcast on The Sun newspaper's YouTube channel.

The President expressed the opinion that Russia's agreement to a cease-fire would mean that a peaceful settlement of the conflict has already been achieved by 80%.

A day earlier, Trump announced that he intended to get Russian leader Vladimir Putin's consent to a cease-fire in Ukraine. He stressed that he was going to have a conversation with the Russian president this week. According to Trump, representatives of the countries will meet in the next few days to discuss the Ukrainian conflict.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, in turn, said that in the near future Russia is scheduled to have contacts with representatives of the United States, where Moscow expects to receive information on the results of the meeting of the US and Ukrainian delegations in Jeddah in Saudi Arabia on March 11.
