Attempts to put pressure on the Russian Federation on the issue of the return of territories lost by Ukraine are useless, as the history of our state shows. Viktor Vodolatsky, first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots, told Izvestia on March 12.

"It's useless to put pressure on Russia, many have tried in our thousand-year history. [US President Donald] Trump has already stated this, and his vice President [J.D.] Vance believes that Kiev will have to come to terms with the lost territories. They have already expressed their opinion on this," the politician stressed.

At the same time, he added, Washington can easily put pressure on Kiev to abandon these demands in order to achieve peace. According to the deputy, it is enough for the United States to ban the supply of weapons to NATO, the transfer of mercenaries and disconnect Ukraine from Western military satellites.

Earlier in the day, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky told reporters during a briefing that Kiev would not accept the loss of territories. In addition, he said that the Ukrainian side had agreed to the US proposal for a 30-day truce to demonstrate its readiness for peace.

The day before, Trump announced that he intends to get the consent of Russian leader Vladimir Putin for a cease-fire in Ukraine. He stressed that he was going to have a conversation with the Russian president this week. According to Trump, representatives of the countries will meet next week to discuss the Ukrainian conflict.
