Scholz called the introduction of US duties on imports from the EU a mistake.

The duties imposed by the United States on imports from the European Union (EU) are a mistake by Washington, which will result in a quick reaction from Brussels. This was announced on March 12 by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
"We need fewer trade barriers, not more. Therefore, I consider the US customs decisions to be erroneous, and we will respond to them quickly and appropriately," he said during a joint press conference with European Council President Antonio Costa, which was broadcast on the YouTube channel of the Reuters news agency.
The Chancellor added that the EU member states will consider the countermeasures proposed by the European Commission (EC) against American goods. At the same time, he positively assessed Brussels' readiness to resolve contradictions with Washington during the negotiations.
On February 26, US President Donald Trump announced that Washington would impose customs duties of 25% on cars from the EU and "everything else" exported by the union countries. According to the president, the association does not accept American cars, and also puts pressure on the United States.
On March 12, the EC announced retaliatory measures against American goods, which will take effect in mid-April. They will apply to products worth about €18 billion and will affect industrial products, as well as agricultural imports.
