Daniel Bernard Rebar, a US citizen, was sentenced in absentia to 25 years in prison for committing a terrorist act in the Kursk region and mercenary activities. This was reported on March 12 in the Telegram channel of the Investigative Committee of Russia.
It is specified that in September 2024, Rebar, acting for financial remuneration, took part in an armed conflict on the side of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). He illegally crossed the Russian border during an armed attack on the territory of the Kursk region.
According to the Investigative Committee, in the course of his activities, he committed crimes against the civilian population in order to cause significant damage and destabilize the work of the authorities.
The statement also says that the court chose a preventive measure in the form of detention for Rebar in absentia, and he is on the international wanted list. The mercenary was sentenced to 25 years in prison with serving the first six years in prison, the rest in a high—security colony.
"In addition, the court ordered the confiscation of funds in the amount of more than 2.5 million rubles received by the convicted person as a mercenary," the statement said.
Earlier that day, the court sentenced Robert Wertman, an American mercenary, to 23 years in prison in absentia. According to the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, he has been sentenced to 23 years in prison, of which he will spend the first five years in prison and the rest in a high—security colony.
