The court sentenced the American namenik of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to 23 years in prison in absentia.

An American mercenary of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) was sentenced in absentia to 23 years in prison. Robert Wertman for committing a terrorist act in the Kursk region. This was announced on March 12 by the Investigative Committee of Russia (IC RF).

It is established that Wertman participated in the conflict for a monetary reward. In September 2024, as part of the Armed Forces units, he invaded the territory of the Kursk region and committed crimes against the civilian population.

"At the request of the investigator, a preventive measure in the form of detention was chosen in absentia for Wertman, he was put on the international wanted list," the department's Telegram channel said.

According to the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, Wertman has been sentenced to 23 years in prison, of which he will spend the first five years in prison and the rest in a high—security colony. In addition, he was fined 1.6 million rubles.

On the same day, the court sentenced Lithuanian mercenary Sharunas Yasyukevicius to 23 years in prison for invading the Kursk region and participating in hostilities. It was established that he threatened local residents, as well as fired at Russian military personnel and law enforcement officers.
