The European Commission (EC) has announced retaliatory measures against the US duties, which will take effect in mid-April. The corresponding statement was published on the EC website on March 12.

"The Commission <...> has launched the process of introducing additional countermeasures against the United States. They will be aimed at goods worth about €18 billion, which will then be applied together with the reintroduced measures from 2018. The aim is to ensure that the total cost of the EU measures is consistent with the increased cost of trade affected by the new US tariffs," the statement said.

It is specified that duties will be imposed on industrial products, which include steel, aluminum, household appliances and household tools. It will also affect agricultural products: beef, seafood, eggs, dairy products and vegetables.

On February 26, US President Donald Trump announced that the United States would impose customs duties of 25% on the European Union not only on cars, but also on "everything else." According to the president, the EU does not accept American cars, and also puts pressure on the States.

At the same time, the EC press service reported that the EU intends to respond decisively to the 25% duties promised by Trump in the near future. They clarified that the European Union is the largest global market, which could become the "biggest success" for the United States.
