Lavrov expressed support for Trump's nuclear dialogue initiative

Russia supports the initiative of American President Donald Trump to organize a meeting between the United States, China and the Russian Federation to discuss security, strategic stability and nuclear weapons. This was stated on March 12 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in an interview with American bloggers Mario Naufalu, Larry Johnson and Andrew Napolitano.
"Donald Trump has already stated his desire to organize a meeting of three countries — the United States, China and Russia - to discuss nuclear weapons and security issues. We are open to any format based on mutual respect, equality and rejection of predetermined decisions. If our Chinese friends are interested in this, the decision is up to them. But this does not negate the importance of the Russian-American dialogue on strategic stability," Lavrov said.
According to the Russian Foreign Minister, Russian leader Vladimir Putin stressed the importance of such a dialogue due to the expiration of the Strategic Offensive Arms Reduction Treaty in a year. Lavrov added that the Trump administration's approach on this issue differs from the actions of former US President Joe Biden.
"This is an approach that stands in stark contrast to the previous one, which was followed by the Joe Biden administration. They said, let's resume the implementation of the Treaty on the Reduction of Strategic Offensive Arms. Just let us visit some of your nuclear facilities. We will respond to them: "You have declared us enemies and declared your desire to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia." They replied that this was the case, but, they say, this does not exclude the holding of tactical and technical visits," the minister explained.
According to Lavrov, Trump, in turn, points to the need to turn the countries' overlapping interests "into something practical and useful," regardless of differences.
On March 7, the American leader announced his intention to start a dialogue with Moscow and Beijing on nuclear disarmament. On the same day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted the need for dialogue between Russia and the United States on arms control. According to him, this is important not only from the point of view of the interests of the two countries, but also from the point of view of international security.
