Lavrov declared the loss of independence and economic importance of the European Union

The European Union (EU) has lost its independence and its economic importance in pursuit of attempts to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia. This was stated on March 12 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in an interview with American bloggers Mario Naufalu, Larry Johnson and Andrew Napolitano.

"The EU has lost its independence, its economic importance. <...> Europe is deindustrializing before our eyes. They are ready to sacrifice everything solely for the sake of achieving the ideological goal of defeating Russia," he said.

Thus, according to Lavrov, the German government announced its refusal to restore gas supply through Nord Stream 2, despite the fact that Russian fuel was the basis for the prosperity of the German economy.

"Germans are now paying four to five times more for gas than similar industries in the United States," he said.

The minister also added that the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, is trying to organize remilitarization to distract attention from the real problems of European countries.

"Many people think that this is a ploy to distract the attention of the population from the tens and hundreds of billions of euros spent without proper audit during the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and while providing assistance to Ukraine," Lavrov stressed.

This will hit the economy of the association — the amount required for rearmament is four times its annual budget.

The day before, the head of the European Commission said that the defense industry of the European Union is significantly lagging behind the Russian one, therefore it is necessary to accelerate militarization. According to her, EU countries should spend more than 3% of GDP on defense spending. The day before, Lubos Blaga, a member of the European Parliament from Slovakia, called on European countries to recognize the loss of the Ukrainian plot and start negotiating with Russia.
