US President Donald Trump has no plans to raise import duties on Canadian steel and aluminum to 50% on March 12. This was announced on March 11 by Peter Navarro, senior adviser to the American leader on trade and manufacturing.

"That's right," he replied to a question about the postponement of the increase in an interview with CNBC.

The adviser added that U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick "did a great job" negotiating with Ontario Premier Doug Ford to suspend the 25 percent electricity surcharge.

The day before, Trump instructed the Official to raise import duties on Canadian steel and aluminum to 50%. The American leader noted that this decision was a response to the 25% increase in electricity prices introduced by the Canadian province of Ontario for three American states. On the same day, after talks with the U.S. Secretary of Commerce, Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced the suspension of the surcharge.
