- The Institute of the Human Brain has mastered the method of relieving Parkinson's patients from tremor without surgery

Patients with Parkinson's disease will be able to get rid of limb tremors without surgery thanks to the new equipment provided by the Bekhtereva Institute of the Human Brain as part of the federal targeted investment program for technical re-equipment, Mikhail Didur, director of the organization, MD, told Izvestia.
"The tremor effect in Parkinson's disease is eliminated immediately, and noninvasively, without surgery. And this is something that usually greatly hinders a person, invalidates him," he noted.
According to Didur, the result is achieved using an ultrasound ablator. There are three such devices in Russia, besides St. Petersburg, they are also in Moscow and Ufa. The procedure resembles taking an encephalogram.
"The patient puts on a special cap, which has built-in ultrasound emitters. They produce approximately 1,200 directional radiated ultrasound signals that can affect the deep tissues of the human brain, including foci associated with Parkinson's disease. Previously, these centers were affected with a gamma knife, but gamma rays are unsafe for the human body, as is everything related to the autopsy of a human skull," the expert said.
In addition to the ultrasound ablator, the Human Brain Institute has received a new positron emission tomograph of the latest generation with five special research rings. This is the only device of this class in our country and one of the most modern devices in the world.
Also, in the year of the 35th anniversary of the institute, founded on March 12, 1990 in accordance with the decree of the Council of Ministers of the USSR, a new building with 60 beds will be commissioned here. Thus, there will be 175 of them in total, which is a lot for a research institute.
