The US authorities are no longer willing to spend billions of dollars on providing military and other assistance to Ukraine. This was announced by the American leader Donald Trump on March 11 during a conversation with reporters at the White House.

"We don't want to give away billions, hundreds of billions of dollars. We have already spent $350 billion [on Ukraine]," he stressed.

In addition, according to him, Washington seeks to end hostilities in Ukraine, including because the conflict is taking lives.

Trump also noted that he would not have allowed this conflict if he had been president of the United States in the previous four years. In addition, he expressed hope for a complete ceasefire in Ukraine in the coming days.

"I know that we have a big meeting with Russia tomorrow. And hopefully, great [further] conversations will follow," he said.

Trump expressed hope that Russian President Vladimir Putin would agree to a cease-fire in Ukraine. He noted that he plans to have a conversation with the Russian leader this week. The US president also added that representatives of the countries will meet on the Ukrainian issue on March 11 or 12. According to him, if Washington fails to convince Moscow to agree to a cease-fire, the conflict in Ukraine will continue. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stressed that Washington hopes for a positive response from Moscow.
