The European Union supported the proposal for a truce in Ukraine, the announcement of the resumption of US military supplies and the transfer of intelligence to Kiev. This was announced on March 11 by the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa.
"We welcome the news from Jeddah about the negotiations between the United States and Ukraine, including the proposal for a truce and the resumption of the provision of American intelligence and military assistance," their messages on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
In addition, they noted that the European Union also supports the results of the negotiations between the US and Ukrainian delegations in Jeddah. The EU believes that these steps are a positive development for long-term peace in Ukraine.
According to von der Leyen and Costa, "the ball is now on Russia's side." However, they also stressed that the EU intends to "play its full role together with partners in the upcoming peace negotiations."
On the same day, American leader Donald Trump expressed hope for obtaining consent from Russian President Vladimir Putin for a cease-fire in Ukraine. He noted that he plans to have a conversation with the Russian leader this week. Trump also added that representatives of the countries will meet on the Ukrainian issue on March 11 or 12. According to him, if Washington fails to convince Moscow to agree to a cease-fire, the conflict in Ukraine will continue.
