Ontario agreed to abolish duties of 25% on electricity for the United States

Ontario has agreed to suspend a 25% surcharge on electricity exports to the US states of Minnesota, Michigan and New York. This was announced on March 11 by Ontario Premier Doug Ford.
"Today, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick and Ontario Premier Doug Ford had a productive conversation about economic relations between the United States and Canada," a message on the social network X (formerly Twitter) said.
He also said that his official meeting with the Prime Minister of Canada will be held on March 13. U.S. trade representatives will also be present to discuss updating the USMCA agreement ahead of the planned April 2 introduction of mirror duties by the American side.
"In response, Ontario has agreed to suspend a 25% surcharge on electricity exports to Michigan, New York and Minnesota," Ford said.
The head of the US Department of Commerce, Howard Latnik, confirmed Ford's words on the social network X (formerly Twitter) by posting an official statement.
On March 10, the Ontario authorities raised the price of electricity by 25% for three American states — Minnesota, Michigan and New York. This decision was made in response to tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump.
