- The media reported on the decision of the Constitutional Court of Romania to reject the registration of Georgescu for the elections

The Constitutional Court of Romania has upheld the decision of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Romania, which rejected the registration of opposition politician Calin Georgescu for the presidential election. This was reported on March 11 by the Realitatea Plus TV channel, citing sources.
On March 9, the CEC refused to register Georgescu, deciding that the documents submitted by him did not comply with the requirements of the law. This decision sparked protests in Bucharest, which escalated into clashes with police, during which 13 gendarmes were injured and three people were detained. The politician appealed to the Constitutional Court, but his complaints were rejected.
"Georgescu cannot run, the judges have made such a decision, it is final," the article clarifies.
Georgescu was taken to the prosecutor's office for questioning on February 26. He was later released on his own recognizance. At a rally in Bucharest on March 1, Georgescu said he would continue to fight for the presidency.
The first round of the Romanian presidential election was held on November 24, 2024. According to official sources, Georgescu was in the lead with 22.94% of the vote, but on November 28, the country's Constitutional Court demanded that the Central Election Commission recount the results. They were cancelled on December 6. Repeat elections will be held in Romania on May 4. The second round is scheduled for May 18.
