The refusal to register the national candidate Calin Georgescu became a unifying moment for all anti-globalist forces in this republic, State Duma deputy, Chairman of the Council of the Autonomous Non-Profit Organization "Eurasia" Alyona Arshinova told Izvestia on March 11.

"An attack on democracy in Romania will have the opposite effect. <...> Active consultations of the "sovereignists" are underway in Bucharest, who plan to nominate a single candidate. One of the possible figures is George Simion, an associate of the disgraced politician. He is also a euroskeptic and an anti—globalist," she said.

Polls show that any politician second-hand by Calin Georgescu has the best chance of winning.

"Therefore, the unconstitutional steps of Romania's current puppet leaders are accelerating their own impending collapse," the MP added.

On March 9, it became known that the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Romania rejected Georgescu's candidacy for the presidential election. It was noted that the decision to exclude Georgescu from the elections was made by a majority vote — 10 members of the commission voted against, and four voted in favor.

Georgescu was taken to the prosecutor's office for questioning on February 26. He was later released on his own recognizance. At a rally in Bucharest on March 1, Georgescu said he would continue to fight for the presidency.

The first round of the Romanian presidential election was held on November 24, 2024. According to official sources, Georgescu was in the lead with 22.94% of the vote, but on November 28, the country's Constitutional Court demanded that the Central Election Commission recount the results. They were cancelled on December 6. Repeat elections will be held in Romania on May 4. The second round is scheduled for May 18.
