Slovak activists have handed over to President Peter Pellegrini a petition for the lifting of anti-Russian sanctions. This was announced on March 11 by the chairman of the local civil association "Brother for Brother" Matush Alexa.

"As the Slovak people, we are not interested in political games, we are interested in ensuring that raw materials are bought at a reasonable price and trade continues as it was before," he told reporters before submitting the document.

According to Alexa, the petition was supported by more than 453 thousand people.

In the document, Slovak citizens ask the government of the republic to achieve the lifting of all anti-Russian restrictions through the country's representation in the European Council. The sanctions are described in the petition as ineffective, unfair and damaging to Slovakia.

Presidential spokeswoman Patricia Medved-Matsikova, in turn, told the local newspaper Pravda that Pellegrini had not personally met with the activists. According to her, the petition was submitted for registration.

A day earlier, Lubos Blaga, a member of the European Parliament from Slovakia, called on European leaders to recognize the loss of the conflict with Russia. According to him, Europe remains the only part of the world that wants to continue military operations in Ukraine and continues to assert the alleged international isolation of the Russian Federation.
