Senators will prepare a bill to support student families

On March 11, Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko instructed the Committee on Science and Education to prepare a draft law that will include a set of mandatory measures to support student families.

"A child was born in a student family, but give me a separate room in the dormitory. What problems? I can give examples where student dormitories are rented to migrants and others. Is it really impossible to give a young married couple a dorm room? Transfer a student from a paid to a budget-funded education. To create children's rooms where a student can leave a child for 2-3 hours to go to lectures to listen, so as not to interrupt education," Matvienko said.

According to her, the Ministry of Labor has proposed a good initiative, namely a maternity allowance for female students. Such a benefit will be calculated from the minimum wage for each region. The Chairman of the Federation Council added that maternity benefits for students will increase 10-fold.

"We will also lay down this measure in the law," she added.

On January 31, it became known that the Ministry of Labor has prepared a bill that introduces in 2025 a monthly payment of 72.4 thousand rubles for women awarded the title of "Mother Heroine". So, according to the document, last year the monthly cash payment was 66.1 thousand rubles. In 2025, 72.4 thousand rubles will be paid to women, in 2026 — 75.6 thousand rubles, in 2027 — 78.6 thousand rubles.
