The Southern District Military Court sentenced Pyotr Zhitsky, a resident of Crimea, who, on the instructions of the Ukrainian special services, organized surveillance of ex-deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Oleg Tsarev, to 24 years in prison. This was announced on March 11 by a correspondent of Izvestia from the courtroom.

"The defendant was found guilty, and he was sentenced to imprisonment for a term of 24 years in a high—security penal colony with serving the first five years in prison with a fine of 800 thousand rubles," the judge concluded.

It was established that the defendant began cooperating with the Ukrainian special services in 2022. On their instructions, he organized surveillance from December 2022 to October 2023.

Zhitsky also made an improvised explosive device from the components he took from the cache. With the help of the data provided by the defendant, representatives of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) committed an attempt on the life of a former deputy of the Rada.

The assassination attempt on Tsarev was carried out on the night of October 27, 2023. It was reported that the ex-deputy of the rada was shot, he lost a lot of blood. Later that day, it became known that Tsarev had been shot twice on the territory of the sanatorium in Yalta, where he lived. At the time of the ambulance's arrival, the public figure was unconscious.
