The machine builders of the Rosatom State Corporation at the ZiO-Podolsk plant (Rosatom's machine-building division) began assembling the reactor vessel for the Leningrad nuclear icebreaker. This was announced on March 11 by the press service.

"For Rosatom's Machine-building Division, the production of RITM-200 reactor units has become serial and on-line. This is another clear proof that our domestic industry is the first in everything," Maxim Tyukavkin, deputy head of the division, is quoted as saying on Rosatom's website.

He also noted that their technical solutions contribute to the development of science, industry and the solution of government tasks.

"We have accumulated a huge amount of knowledge and skills, and today we have competencies that no one else in the world has, having mastered and launched the on—line production of the latest RITM series reactor plants," said Anton Lebedev, head of the plant.

On February 11, Rosatom State Corporation and the Kurchatov Institute National Research Center (NRC) signed a document on the establishment of a joint strategic council for closer cooperation in 13 scientific areas in the nuclear field.

The cooperation, which was approved by Alexey Likhachev, head of Rosatom, and Mikhail Kovalchuk, President of the Kurchatov Institute, will cover areas ranging from promising technologies in the development of nuclear energy and nuclear medicine to Arctic and space exploration projects.
