By the end of 2024, 345 aircraft were excluded from the registers of foreign countries, and 216 of them were purchased for Russian airlines, according to the materials of the Federal Air Transport Agency, which were reviewed by Izvestia on March 11.

Foreign registration prevented planes from flying abroad. Now these airliners have Russian registration. This is more than half of the Russian fleet.

As noted in the materials of the Federal Air Transport Agency, it was possible to achieve re-registration through interaction and work with foreign administrations to remove these aircraft from foreign registers, including as a result of their purchase by Russian airlines or by agreement with lessors. Previously, the aircraft were leased and had, among other things, registration in Bermuda, as well as in Ireland.

In September 2023, Ilya Torosov, first deputy head of the Ministry of Economic Development, told Izvestia that the agency had collected applications for about 100 billion rubles from Russian airlines for the purchase of imported aircraft. He noted that airlines are likely to complete the purchase of aircraft as early as 2024.

By the end of January 2025, about 300 aircraft from the fleet of Russian airlines remain registered in Bermuda, according to the Bermuda Civil Aviation Authority (BCAA).
