Russia has handed over to the Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Feridun Sinirlioglu has received a list of Russian journalists who have died since the beginning of 2022. This was announced on March 11 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at a press conference following talks with Sinirlioglu.

"The topic of the safety of journalists was raised in sufficient detail <...> Today, we handed over to Mr. Secretary General a list of those journalists who died bravely in the line of duty for the period from the beginning of 2022 to the present day," Lavrov said.

In addition, the OSCE Secretary General was provided with an open letter from Vladimir Solovyov, Chairman of the Union of Journalists of Russia (UJR), on this topic. The Russian Foreign Minister added that this topic would be "persistently" raised further.

At the same time, according to the Minister, OSCE representatives on freedom of the media are following the negative example of UNESCO Director General Audre Azoulay, who did not mention crimes against Russian media representatives working in hot spots in her annual report on the safety of journalists.

Lavrov added that the Russian side will seek to remedy this situation.

Earlier, on February 25, the permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the OSCE demanded the organization's response to sanctions against the Russian media. The representative office stated that the EU's decision to adopt new restrictions against Russian media is illegal and politicized. It violates "international obligations in the field of press pluralism, access to information, and media freedom."
