Political scientist and editor-in-chief of the analytical portal RuBaltic.Ru Alexander Nosovich spoke on Tuesday, March 11, about the reasons for the historically high level of xenophobia towards Russians, Poles, Belarusians and Jews in Lithuania.

According to the expert, this is due to the fact that the Lithuanian nation and culture emerged from the isolation of themselves from other, much stronger and more influential cultures and peoples, and therefore pose a threat to the survival of Lithuanian identity.

"Therefore, xenophobia is a base for Lithuanian society and the state, and it will be reproduced in it, including in relation to Russians," he said in an interview. Lenta.Ru .

Earlier, on February 25, Lithuania began demolishing power transmission lines on the border with Russia. According to Energy Minister Zygimantas Vaiciunas, the dismantling has not only symbolic, but also practical significance.

The vacated lands, about 900 hectares, will be used by farmers, and part of the dismantled infrastructure will be transferred to Ukraine.

On February 8, the Baltic countries disconnected from the joint energy system with Russia. The withdrawal of Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia from the international BRALL electric ring did not affect the parallel operation of the energy systems of Russia and Belarus and the functioning of the energy system in the Kaliningrad region, the press service of the Unified Energy System system operator noted.
