A massive UAV attack on Moscow and the region. What is known by this hour

Air defense systems repelled a massive attack by Ukrainian drones in the Moscow region, which occurred early in the morning on March 11. Dozens of UAVs flying towards the Russian capital were shot down. Several houses were damaged. There are dead and injured. Izvestia has collected everything that is known about the incident by this hour.

What is known about the UAV attack

The attack began around 4:30 a.m. Moscow time, when air defense systems eliminated six UAVs in the Ramenskoye city district of the Moscow region. Later, it was reported that another drone was eliminated in the Ramenskoye city district.

The governor of the region, Andrey Vorobyov, said that calls about UAVs were received from Kolomna, Zaraysk, Silver Ponds, Serpukhov, Ramenskoye, Voskresensk, Lukhovitsy, Bronnitsy, Domodedovo, Leninsky, Podolsk, Elektrostal and Kotelnikov.

As a result of falling drone debris, an apartment building in Ramenskoye was damaged, where at least seven apartments from the 19th to the 22nd floor were damaged. 12 residents, including three children, were evacuated from them. Debris also hit an apartment building in Lyubertsy.

Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo, Zhukovsky and Vnukovo airports were temporarily suspended due to the attack. In addition, train traffic was restricted through Domodedovo railway station towards Moscow and the region.

Employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, ambulance and law enforcement agencies are working at the scene.

Dead and injured

Initially, it was reported that one person was killed and three injured in the town of Vidnoye, Leninsky Urban District, and the village of Yam in Domodedovo.

Later it became known about another dead and two injured in Domodedovo. All of them are employees of the Miratorg company. The injured were taken to the hospital, where they are receiving all necessary assistance.

Official statements

According to Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, a total of 74 drones were destroyed on approach to the capital. The mayor also called the repulsed attack the most massive of those that took place in Moscow.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova clarified that the attack took place at a time when Feridun Sinirlioglu, Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Co—operation in Europe (OSCE), was visiting Moscow (talks are scheduled for March 11). The diplomat added that the visit to Moscow by a high-ranking foreign delegation was not the first time accompanied by an attack. APU drones.
