France lost its independence and sovereignty due to the incompetence of the authorities. The grandson of former French President General Charles de Gaulle, Pierre de Gaulle, told Izvestia on March 10.

"I think my grandfather would have been shocked to see the current state of France, because the country has lost its sovereignty, its independence, its greatness and even its political balance. <...> I must say that today the political class is incompetent, has no vision and no program," he said.

According to Pierre de Gaulle, the French people are suffering because of this. He stressed that there is a question about the legitimacy of President Emmanuel Macron.

"Today we are even wondering about the legitimacy of President Macron, who, if he were a real Gaullist, would resign," he said.

Pierre de Gaulle also added that the French leader does not understand what the country and Europe as a whole need in the long term.

The day before, the leader of the Get Up, France party, Nicolas Dupont-Aignan, said that Macron was deliberately lying about the alleged Russian threat to the European Union in order to manipulate public opinion and distract attention from France's problems. According to him, the country is "on the verge of a currency crisis."
