The body of the Hero of Russia Chebnev was found in a liberated village in the Kursk region.

The body of Hero of Russia, battalion commander of the 9th Motorized Rifle Regiment Sergei Chebnev, who died in the Kursk region, was found in the liberated village of Malaya Loknya. On March 10, Izvestia was informed about this by soldiers of the 1st battalion of the 9th Motorized Rifle Regiment.

"There was a sense of unfulfilled duty because I went, but I couldn't take it with me. But now, six months later, we have done it. He's in place, we're taking him away, and I think I've fulfilled my duty as a comrade, a colleague," said a soldier with the call sign Geran.

On March 6, Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Chebnev's widow Olga and presented her with the Gold Star medal, which the deceased was awarded posthumously. The Russian leader stressed that the hero defended not only his soldiers, but also the civilian population, giving civilians the opportunity to leave for a safe zone.

Chebnev died on August 18, 2024, while defending the village of Malaya Loknya. The battalion commander took over the leadership of the personnel of three regiments and led the defense of the village for 12 days. He was killed during a counterattack by an assault group against the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).
