The Canadian province of Ontario has raised the price of electricity by 25% for three American states — Minnesota, Michigan and New York. This was reported on March 10 by Bloomberg.

This decision was made in response to tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump.

"Ontario has instructed its grid operator, an independent electricity system operator, to add a surcharge of 10 Canadian dollars (US$7) per megawatt hour," the agency wrote.

"Believe me when I say I don't want to do this. I feel terrible for the American people. One person who is responsible. This is President Donald Trump," Bloomberg quoted Ontario Premier Doug Ford as saying.

On March 4, Trump threatened Canada with an increase in duties in the event of retaliatory measures against tariffs from the United States. On the same day, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called Washington's imposition of tariffs the beginning of a trade war against Ottawa. He also announced the introduction by Canada of duties of 25% on imports from the United States worth $125 billion in 21 days.
