The container ship Solong, which collided with the tanker Stena Immaculate in the North Sea off the coast of Great Britain, was carrying sodium cyanide, the English shipping magazine Lloyd's List reported on March 10.

The article notes that there were 15 containers with the substance on board the Solong, as well as an unknown amount of alcohol.

Sodium cyanide is an extremely toxic substance that can quickly block enzymes that provide tissue respiration, which makes it deadly. Strict control is required during transportation and storage, as even small leaks can lead to serious consequences.

A tanker and a cargo ship collided off the northeast coast of England on the afternoon of March 10. According to the Reuters news agency, a helicopter, an airplane, rescue boats and nearby vessels with fire extinguishing equipment were sent to the scene. Sky News reported that 32 people were injured as a result. Later, the TV channel announced the rescue of all 37 sailors on board the ships.
