Avalanche danger declared in Sakhalin region

Avalanches are possible in the Sakhalin Region in the next two days. SakhalinMedia news agency writes about this with reference to information from the regional Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

Unfavorable conditions are expected in Kholmsky, Dolinsky, Smirnykhovsky, Tomarinsky, Alexandrovsk-Sakhalinsky, Makarovsky, Anivsky, Uglegorsky, Korsakovsky, Nevelsky districts and Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. An emergency warning has been sent to the municipal administrations.

Forces and means are prepared to respond to the consequences of avalanches.

On February 24, a skier disappeared in the mountains of Sochi during an avalanche. He skated outside the equipped trails. The body of the deceased was discovered on March 1 using an avalanche device under the snow at a depth of 2.5 m.
