The head of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) and presidential candidate of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Morinari Watanabe, said on March 10 that the organization wants to hear the opinions of those who are dissatisfied with the conditions of admission of Russian athletes to international competitions in a neutral status.

Watanabe held a meeting in Novogorsk with Russian gymnasts, coaches and President of the Russian Gymnastics Federation Oleg Belozerov.

"We know that there are doubts about the criteria. We would like to hear them and return to the question of their validity. These opinions should be taken into account," Watanabe said.

After the meeting, Belozerov stressed that the FGR demands the full restoration of the participation of Russian gymnasts in competitions under the national flag and anthem.

"We discussed a lot of issues, including participation in team disciplines. Our key requirement is to return to the international arena without restrictions," Belozerov said.

Watanabe's visit to Moscow took place as part of his election campaign before the IOC presidential election, which will be held on March 20.

Earlier in the day, Morinari Watanabe announced his intention to return Russian athletes to the international stage. He stressed that he would make every effort to restore the participation of Russians in major sporting events.
