Kama Shipping has pleaded not guilty to the crash of the Volgoneft-212 tanker

Kama Shipping did not admit guilt in the incident related to the wreck of the Volgoneft-212 tanker in the Kerch Strait, according to the lawsuit filed by FSBI Morspassluzhba, a correspondent of Izvestia reported from the courtroom on March 10.

According to the representative of the company, the shipowner of Volgoneft-212 is Kamatransoil, and Kama Shipping is a commercial charter charterer.

After the tanker crash, the management of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Marine Rescue Service" filed a lawsuit against the companies "Kama Shipping" and "Kamatransoil". The third parties in the lawsuit are the All-Russian Insurance Company, Volgatransneft.

The lawsuit is related to compensation for the costs of work to eliminate the consequences of the wreck of the tankers Volgoneft-239 and Volgoneft-212 near the Kerch Strait. Earlier, Kama Shipping appeared in civil disputes as the shipowner of Volgoneft-212. On Monday, a preliminary court hearing was held at the Arbitration Court of the Krasnodar Territory.

Earlier in the day, Anapa City Hall announced that it had filed a lawsuit with the Arbitration Court of the Krasnodar Territory against Volgatransneft and Kama Shipping. The city administration demands to recover 211 million rubles from the defendants.

Tankers Volgoneft-212 and Volgoneft-239 crashed in the Kerch Strait on December 15, 2024 due to bad weather. The incident caused a spill of petroleum products. 27 people were evacuated from both ships, one person died. On behalf of Russian President Vladimir Putin, a working group was set up to coordinate work to eliminate the consequences of the emergency.

The press service of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation announced on January 2 that 2.4 thousand tons of petroleum products had entered the Black Sea after the tanker crash. Later, on January 3, an oil slick was found in Sevastopol at the entrance to Balaklava Bay. The next day, the fuel oil moved north along the Crimean coast, and a regional emergency regime was declared in Sevastopol.
