Chinese used cars have risen in price in Russia

In February, the average cost of a car with a mileage of no more than 15 years remained virtually unchanged for Russian, European, Japanese and Korean brands. At the same time, Chinese cars on the "secondary market" increased in price by 2.6%, to 3.74 million rubles, <url> Assessment experts told Izvestia on March 11.

Unlike the new ones, the segment of used cars by the end of February does not show similar signs of slowing down: the volume of supply turned out to be 1.5 times higher than in 2024, and there have been changes in the supply structure, analysts said.

For the first time, the share of Chinese manufacturers in the secondary market exceeded the limit of 5%. The share of domestic brands exceeded 18%, increasing by 3% year-on-year. This was due to a reduction in the share of Korean, Japanese and European brands from 75% to 69%.

The average cost of a domestic car with a mileage of no more than 15 years in February remained at the January level and amounted to 722 thousand rubles (5% less than a year earlier). Models of Chinese brands were offered at an average price of 2.2 million rubles, which is only 20 thousand rubles higher than the January values. The average cost of European, Japanese, and Korean cars turned out to be higher — 2.41 million rubles, but this is still almost 9% less than a year ago.

Earlier, on March 10, Director of Development and Sales of Avto.<url> Business Daniil Shkurygin explained that one of the main reasons for the decline in new car sales in Russia this winter was the high interest rates on loans. In addition, banks have new responsibilities to create reserves in case of possible risks associated with non-fulfillment of loan obligations by borrowers.

On March 6, it became known that 78,040 new passenger cars were sold in Russia over the last winter month, which is 24.9% less than in February 2024. Lada remains the most popular brand, with its share rising to 31%.
