The upcoming negotiations between the delegations of Kiev and Washington in Saudi Arabia will be another logical attempt by the administration of American leader Donald Trump to convince Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky of the need to conclude a partial truce, Bloomberg reports.

In the future, this approach will allow the parties to agree on signing a long-term peace, the article clarifies.

If such an agreement is concluded, Washington may consider lifting the restrictions recently imposed on Kiev. In addition, the Trump administration is already negotiating to ease sanctions against Russia.

According to Bloomberg, discussions on US security guarantees, which may be crucial to ensure the strength of any peace agreement, have been suspended for the time being. The size of the Ukrainian army will be an integral part of this element of the truce, which is likely to become another point of disagreement with Moscow, the article says.

European officials have repeatedly stated that Kiev needs Washington's security guarantees, among other things, but it remains unclear whether the Trump administration will be ready to provide Ukraine with anything other than the points stipulated in the rare earth metals agreement.

Negotiations between Kiev and Washington will be held in the Saudi city of Jeddah on Tuesday, March 11.

Earlier, Zelensky said on the social network X that his meeting with Trump at the White House "did not go as planned." He stressed Ukraine's readiness to conclude a deal on US mineral resources, and also expressed Kiev's intention to "sit down at the negotiating table as soon as possible."

A meeting between Trump and Zelensky took place in the Oval Office of the White House on Friday, February 28. During the conversation, a dispute broke out between the parties involving the Vice President of the United States, J. D. Vance. Zelensky later left the White House ahead of schedule without signing an agreement on rare earth metals.
