The media reported on Azerbaijan's refusal to extradite ex-judge Khakhaleva

An Azerbaijani court has refused to extradite Elena Khakhaleva, a former judge of the Krasnodar Regional Court, who is on the international wanted list. On March 10, this was reported by the APA agency.
"The request for her extradition to Russia was not granted by the court," Shakhla Humbatova, a lawyer for the former judge, told the agency.
Khakhaleva was detained at Baku airport on January 27. According to a source in Izvestia, the woman wanted to fly to Dubai, but she was removed from the flight.
On May 17, 2022, a criminal case was opened against Khakhaleva under articles on fraud and forgery. The Investigative Committee suspected the judge of embezzling 1 million rubles. On June 10, she was arrested in absentia and put on the international wanted list. She was given a preventive measure in the form of two months of arrest from the moment of her actual detention.
Khakhaleva became known in the media as the "golden judge". In 2017, it became known about her daughter's wedding for $ 2 million, at which the stars of Russian show business performed. However, it later became clear that Khakhaleva could not hold the position of judge, as her diploma turned out to be fake. It was not possible to find any documents confirming the woman's studies at the Abkhazian university. The Plenum of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation removed Khakhaleva from the presidium in the fall of 2018, and in the summer of 2019 she was suspended from trials.
In July 2020, the Higher Qualification Board of Judges of Russia prematurely stripped Khakhaleva of her powers.
On December 8, 2021, she left Russia, flying to Yerevan. She left the property, estimated at 300 million rubles, but at the same time managed to sell the house for 85 million rubles.
