In the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), a court sentenced a mercenary from the United States to 14 years in prison in absentia. This was reported on March 10 in the press service of the DPR prosecutor's office.
"The Supreme Court of the Donetsk People's Republic has pronounced a verdict in absentia in the criminal case against Benjamin Stuart Reed, a 37-year-old citizen of the United States of America. He was found guilty on two counts of Part 3 of Article 359 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Participation of a mercenary in an armed conflict")," the statement said.
It is specified that in March 2022, Reed arrived on the territory of Ukraine and voluntarily joined the Norman Brigade as a mercenary. He completed military training and after that took part in combat operations against Russian military personnel. The mercenary received more than 1.2 million rubles for his actions.
It was noted that he was sentenced to 14 years in prison to serve his sentence in a high-security penal colony.
On March 5, a court sentenced a British mercenary to 19 years in prison for crimes against civilians in the Kursk region. It was clarified that the Briton participated in the armed conflict as a mercenary, receiving financial remuneration for this. In November last year, as part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (VFU), he illegally invaded Russian territory, where he committed crimes against civilians.
