- The political scientist admitted the aggravation between Washington and Ottawa under the new Prime Minister of Canada

The policy of Canadian Prime Minister-elect Mark Carney may worsen the country's relations with the United States, he will act tougher than his predecessor Justin Trudeau. Denis Denisov, an expert at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, shared this opinion with Izvestia on March 10.
The former head of the Central Banks of Canada and the United Kingdom, Carney, won the race for the post of leader of the ruling Liberal Party of Canada on March 9, against which he will replace Trudeau as prime minister of the country. The 59-year-old politician won 86% of the vote.
"Carney is in many ways the personification of a modern globalist, a transnationalist, a man who perceives reality through the prism of the views of multinational corporations, big money. Having worked all his life in areas related to banking, and in quite significant leadership positions, he is a traditional representative of the financial and economic lobby, with which he launched such an unexpected war [US President Donald Trump] Trump," commented Denisov.
Against this background, the source believes, relations between Washington and Ottawa will be more tense than they were under Trudeau. So, he added, against the background of "different philosophies" held by Carney and Trump, a serious conflict is growing.
In addition, the political scientist noted, it is unlikely that Canada's position towards Russia will change. A man like Carney won't just change his position, Denisov expressed confidence. If this happens, it will only be under pressure from circumstances. It is doubtful that the politician has a desire to straighten Canada's relations with the Russian Federation, the expert concluded.
The day before, Carney, during a speech at the congress of the Liberal Party, of which he is the leader, said that the US import duties on Canada pose a major threat to the country. At the same time, he promised that Canada would win this trade war and "by no means be part of the United States."
On March 4, Trump threatened Canada with an increase in duties in the event of retaliatory measures against tariffs from the United States. On the same day, Trudeau called Washington's imposition of tariffs the beginning of a trade war against Ottawa. He also announced the introduction by Canada of duties of 25% on imports from the United States worth $125 billion in 21 days.
