The authorities of Greenland allowed the island to become independent

Greenland can become an independent island, as well as conclude an association agreement with Denmark and the Faroe Islands, while remaining part of the Western alliance for security and defense. This was announced on March 10 by the head of the government of Greenland, Mute Egede, on the air of the DR. broadcasting company.
"I don't rule out any options, but it will be within the framework of the Western alliance. There are a number of security and defense policy issues where we need to unite with other countries with which we are already in an alliance," Egede said.
He also called on local parties to unite and develop a plan for a common vision and implementation of measures. The date of the vote on the island's independence is not specified.
Earlier, on January 30, a public opinion poll conducted by the Verian sociological center revealed that the majority of Greenlanders support independence from Denmark. It was noted that 56% of respondents would like to preserve the island's independence, 28% opposed it, and 16% were undecided. At the same time, 45% of respondents support independence only if it does not have a negative impact on their standard of living.
