A sharp drop in the industrial production index was recorded in St. Petersburg

The industrial production index in St. Petersburg showed a significant decrease in January 2025. This is especially noticeable in the beverage sector.

According to Petrostat, in the first months of the year, the indicator decreased from 119% to 44.3%. This was the sharpest decline among all industries. A slowdown in growth or a reduction in production volumes is recorded in 15 sectors of the economy. Thus, the number of sectors with negative dynamics increased from 10 to 12 compared to last year.

According to analysts, this is due to a change in consumer demand, an increase in the cost of raw materials and logistical difficulties. 78 TV channel notes that the authorities have already begun discussing support measures to stabilize the situation.

At the end of February, it became known that the production of import-substituting parts for Lada cars would begin in St. Petersburg, and the military-industrial holding Kingisepp Machine-Building Plant would set up production.

The production of parts will be established as part of a federal initiative to support projects involving the development of design documentation for components that are necessary for the automotive industry.
