Russians will rest twice for four days in a row during the May holidays this year. This was announced on Monday, March 10, by Marina Lopatina, an expert at the RANEPA Institute for Social Analysis and Forecasting, in an interview with RIA Novosti.

She explained that such a number of non-working days is due to the postponement of holidays that fell on weekends. So, the day off from Saturday, January 4, was postponed to Friday, May 2, and on February 23 (Sunday) — to Thursday, May 8, the expert recalled.

Lopatina noted that May 1 is an official holiday, May 2 is a postponed holiday, and May 3 and 4 are Saturday and Sunday. In the second week of the month, May 8 is a postponed holiday, May 9 is a public holiday, and the 10th and 11th fell on the weekend.

Thus, Russians will rest for two weeks in a row for four days, the expert concluded.

The day before, on March 9, Yaroslav Nilov, head of the State Duma Committee on Labor and a deputy from the Liberal Democratic Party, said that from May 8 to 11 and from June 12 to June 15, Russians are waiting for a big weekend due to the postponement of non-working days from February 23 and March 8. He recalled that postponing weekends is the government's right, which is carried out annually.
