Russian forward, Washington captain Alexander Ovechkin scored a goal in the mast of the National Hockey League (NLH) regular season against Seattle and reduced the gap from the record of Canadian hockey player Wayne Gretzky to eight goals. The match took place on March 9 and ended with a score of 4:2 in favor of the Washington Capitals.

The 39-year-old Russian has a total of 886 goals in regular NHL games. He ranks second among all the league players in history, with Gretzky leading the way with 894 goals, writes Sport-Express.

Now, to take his place among the best snipers in NHL history, Ovechkin needs to score nine more goals.

Washington's next game will be on March 12 against Anaheim.

Earlier, on March 6, the Washington Capitals beat the New York Rangers on the road in an NHL regular season match. The match ended with a score of 3:2. Pierre-Luc Dubois, Alexander Ovechkin and Tom Wilson scored for the Capitals.
