- Reuters reported on the arrest of a Palestinian student in the United States for participating in protests.

U.S. immigration agents have arrested Mahmoud Khalil, a Columbia University student who actively participated in pro-Palestinian protests at the university. This was reported by the Reuters news agency on March 10.
"Student Mahmoud Khalil from the university's School of International and Public Relations was arrested by agents of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security at his university residence on Saturday," the agency reported, citing the student union Student Workers of Columbia.
It is clarified that the anti-immigration services were not stopped by the fact that Khalil had a valid green card for permanent residence in the United States. At the same time, the detainee's wife, a US citizen, is eight months pregnant.
"Khalil's detention appears to be one of the first attempts by US President Donald Trump to fulfill his promise to deport some international students who participated in the pro-Palestinian protest movement, which he called anti—Semitic," Reuters believes.
A day earlier, Columbia University was stripped of $400 million in grants due to accusations of anti-Semitism amid pro-Palestinian protests. As part of the demonstrations, students set up camp in April and inspired a wave of similar protests. Protesters at Columbia University took over the campus building, leading to dozens of arrests as police cleared the building.
